At the regular meeting held Friday evening January 7 at Social Hall, plans for a new club house were accepted and construction will begin when weather allows. Officers social and military were elected for 1927.
Military unit notes a commander elect appoints Stanley A. Roberts as 1st Sergeant. Social officers include Merle D. Penney as president and Francis P. Raynor as secretary. After the meeting, 42 members enjoyed clam chowder prepared by Chef Charlie Flanagan.
Miss Elizabeth Powell district nurse was absent from her duties this week to tend her mother who is critically ill in Pictou Nova Scotia. A telegram on Sunday summoned her home and she is at her mother's bedside leaving colleagues wondering about her whereabouts.
The Hospital Aid Association announces its annual Hospital Ball for February 18 at the Elks Hall. The event aims to raise funds for Community Hospital supplies including linen and hot water bottles. Committee chair Ruth H. Walsh urges all organizations to attend and avoid other events that night. donations may be called in to Ocean 0230.
A 1927 letter from Charles J. Brown to Winthrop residents urges funding to allow World War I veterans to visit battlefields in peacetime.
