Seven Escape Midnight Fire In Highlands Home
Midnight fire at 41 Upland Road in the Highlands forced Gabriel Giarla and his family to flee onto a second story piazza then ground as flames spread from the kitchen. Mrs. Giarla woke to smoke. neighbors and police alerted the fire department which battled the blaze for over three hours. The home, a Highlands landmark, suffered about $5000 in losses. the Giarla family included wife Clara and children Robert Thomas Anna Clara and Gussie.

Death of William G. Mitten in Winthrop Community
William G. Mitten, a prominent local figure, died at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital on Tuesday January 4 after weeks of illness. He left a wife Louise J. Cody and two children at their Sunnyside Avenue home. He served with Winthrop Post 146 A L and Winthrop Council K of C. his widow is active in musical circles as assistant organist at St John the Evangelist church. The funeral will be Friday morning with a 9 o clock mass at St John the Evangelist.

Miss Adelaide M. Floyd longtime resident of 210 Main St. died last Sunday in her 83rd year. Born in 1844 she lived in the same house as Chelsea North Chelsea and Winthrop changed. Survived by two sisters Mrs Charles Floyd Covell of Malden and Miss Maude Floyd and one nephew Leroy J. Covell. Funeral at First Methodist Episcopal Church with Rev C Oscar Ford officiating and hymns by Mrs Jennie Nickerson.
