A Boston financial note cites a July fare cut and a profitable third quarter for the B R and L R R, with a $69,958 operating surplus for the three months ending Sept 30. It warns that weather, high wages, and coal costs cut dividends, noting wages at 61 percent of expenses and coal at up to $18 per ton.
Winthrop High defeated Revere 15 to 7 to close the season opener. The game featured a Winthrop touchdown drive sparked by Malloy and Saunders, with key runs and a punt return turning the tide. Revere answered punt returns but failed to cross the goal line in the decisive first half.
