C I Nelson Named New Tax Collector
Carl J Nelson former police department clerk of four and a half years was appointed tax collector for the unexpired term to succeed the late James C Nelson by the Board of Selectmen. He was born in West Newton, moved to this town in 1914, and has lived at 10 Marshall Street with his wife and family. He joined the police force on February 19, 1928, and is active in the Masons Elks American Legion and Forty and Eight. He is a delegate to the Suffolk County American Legion council. The tax office closed all day Wednesday out of respect for the late collector.

Grant for Belle Isle Intet Channel dredging approved
Rep Daniel J Honan Selectman Leonard C Atkins and Commodore George J Hamilton of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club secured a 9900 grant from state and federal governments for dredging the Belle Isle Inlet Channel. Bay State Dredging Co won the contract to create a 60 foot wide, 9 foot deep channel 3800 feet long from the Nun buoy near the airport to Pleasant Park Yacht Club.

Civil Works Program Provides 150 Jobs In Town
The Civil Works program began Monday providing 150 men with first government paychecks expected this Saturday. Workers will lay and replace water mains across town on a 30 hour week for ten weeks. Harry W. Aiken is Federal disbursing officer and will supervise checks while James Law leads employment efforts for the Federal Reemployment Office. Half the workers come from welfare and soldiers relief lists, the rest from job seekers.
