The Winthrop Trust Company outlines resources and liabilities as of August 14 1920 and announces a new building slated for completion in August. It promises larger public space private rooms and coupon booths for rent plus a private room for the President to meet customers, aiming to swell deposits.
The Pleasant Park Yacht Club of Winthrop held its annual moonlight excursion on Wednesday evening, August 26, 1920. Boats left the clubhouse at 7 30 and returned for 9 o'clock cinema in the hall. Commodore Farrells Thelma led a flotilla of 17 boats with officers and guests aboard.
Joseph Harvey withdraws from the Republican nomination race for representative in the 21st Suffolk District in Win. He cites a very demanding new position and says retirement serves the party and his personal welfare. He thanks supporters and signs sincerely.
Next Tuesday August 31 at 8 p m in the Social Hall rear of the post office a Republican gathering with two prominent speakers and a song leader is planned all are invited to attend power is president a Legion frolic is noted on page 2.
Saturday afternoon a large turnout of children arrived for St John of the Evangelist Church lawn party festival. The event featured Punch and Judy shows and continued throughout the day and evening as a big carnival for the youngsters.
Four booths represented by Winthrop with elegant decorations impressed attendees. Rev. Fr. John H. Griffin and Fr. John J. O'Brien praised the event, which drew an estimated 2500 people. Park table listed numerous ladies including Mrs. Albion Pease and Miss Mary Murray among others.
