Winthrop Trust Co. reports condition to 1925 April 6

Report of the condition of the Winthrop Trust Co. Winthrop Massachusetts shows reserves for currency specie 3.63 percent deposited in reserve banks 6.03 percent U S and Massachusetts bonds 6.00 percent for the last thirty days. Executed April 15 1925 before Preston B Churchill Justice of the Peace with directors Harry W Aiken Almon E Whittemore and others asserting truth of the statement.

Farewell to Ivey Family at Metcalf Methodist Church

Last Friday evening after services the First Methodist Church at Metcalf held a farewell for Rev. John L. Ivey his wife and family and his mother Mrs Burnside. The vestry was crowded despite inclement weather as friends gathered to honor the pastor and present a purse from the congregation.

Passes of Capt Alonzo F Coggins Fire chief and organizer

Capt Alonzo F Coggins senior captain of the Winthrop Fire Department died about 9 o'clock last Saturday morning April 11 after nearly two years illness at his home 51 Fremont street Born Ellsworth Maine May 30 1863 he built the city fire alarm system and served as chief in 1907 1908 He is survived by wife Margaret a sister Etta Jones and several lodge and association memberships The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 PM at the First Methodist Episcopal Church with interment in Winthrop Cemetery

Winthrop Golf Club Sees Hopeful Growth In 1925

Secretary Willard N Hall reports a strengthened club despite limited resources. Membership stands at 167 active, 43 associate, 16 juniors with 7 dropped for nonpayment, 13 resignations, and 10 new members. The course is improved under Governor C A Williams and tournaments ran well last summer. A drive to reach 200 members aims to cover annual expenses and support further development.

Easter Mass Remarks Honor Late Pastor At St John’s

Fr O’Brien led Easter Sunday services at St John the Evangelist Church after the death of Rev John H Griffin praised the parishioners for their tribute and recalled the late pastor’s arrangements. He cited John 11 25 26 and urged remembrance of the Good Shepherd and the Resurrection.

Assessor Freeman Hart Injured In Bicycle Car Collision

Edward S. Freeman chairman of the Board of Assessors was struck by a car at Main street and Pleasant Park road while bicycling. The driver L. D. Rice of 20 Coral Ave took him home after Dr. Johnson found a slight concussion and head bruises. Freeman remained in bed with shoulder and back pain all day.
