Impressive exercises marked the dedication of Shirley St School’s auditorium, named Edward R Clarke in honor of the late school superintendent. Principal Preston B Chase chaired the arrangements as teachers welcomed attendees. Arthur E Boudreau praised Mr Clarke’s memory and noted the hall’s unique place among schools built during his tenure.

Funeral services for John H Stevens held at his Harbor View Avenue home with Rev Ralph M Harper officiating. Stevens died of a heart attack after a drive with his wife, survived by his wife Mary Stevens, founder of the Winthrop Golf Club and longtime club and yacht members. Interment at Mt Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.

Fifteen Hundred Members Goal Set by Winthrop Visiting Nurse Drive
On Monday a volunteer campaign of more than 1000 workers begins home to home calls across Winthrop to recruit new members for the Visiting Nurse Association. The drive runs April 10 to 24 to support paid visits at 75 cents and expand nursing services, equipment loans, and family nursing instruction.
