Superintendent of Schools Arthur E. Boudreau revises Senior High School curriculums to align with social and economic changes. The Tech Course blends with College Course to meet college requirements, while Commercial and Mechanic Arts courses provide vocational training. A new General Course aims to prepare better citizens.
Rep Roy W. Pigeon reports the Rosa Rugosa bushes ordered for Winthrop are postponed because of unseasonable weather. The nursery will deliver at the first warm day and notifies will be given in Winthrop papers. Prices are 37 cents each with 3 cents for town hall to owner delivery.
The Winthrop High School football team dedicated the 1938 season to Head Coach Robert Perry. At a special assembly in Osborne Hall, captain Sepe Madonna presented the black onyx cameo ring to Perry in thanks for his guidance after a 13 to 0 victory over Revere High and the best local season since 1934.
Next Sunday at 10 45 the Union Congregational Church will welcome Dr Edward Wheeler Wilder M D missionary to India to its pulpit. Boston born he studied at Harvard and led the Albert Victor Hospital for Men in Madura before spearheading the Willis F Pierce Memorial Hospital project.
Mrs Lawrence Jennings entertained The Aces at a Tuesday luncheon bridge. Guests included Mrs Forrest Monroe and Mrs Franklin Waite. Mrs John Fielding is named hostess for the club on April 25.
Health Department announces its annual dog clinic at 21 Pauline St starting Monday April 24 through April 26 from 1 to 5 PM. Free rabies inoculations offered to all dog owners to protect pets and the community from rabies.
Members guests and friends of the Ottagé Park Yacht Club will attend the annual dinner and testimonial on Saturday April 15 with ex Commodore Ralph W Baker as guest of honor. Dinner at 7:00 p m and music entertainment arranged by committee including Carl R Wheeler Stewart Smith and Arthur F Verney.
Bishop Heron will visit St John’s Episcopal Church for confirmation this Sunday at 1 45 a m The first morning service confirmation in years will feature a procession from the parish house and the bishop will tell a short story to kindergarten and primary children The public is welcome to attend the service and hear the story
Albert E. Keleher Jr of Woodside Park sails from New York with his nine member Boston College dance orchestra the Bostonians for a ten day Caribbean cruise. Ports include Kingston Jamaica and Havana Cuba returning to New York April 16.
The Winthrop Daughters of Maine will meet at Beacon Villa on Saturday April 15 with Mrs Lewis Davis hosting. Members are informed of the date and venue change.
A town election spending report filed with the town clerk shows receipts of $549 against expenditures of $676.61 by the Republican Council, leaving an estimated deficit of about $127. The filing lists 122 individual contributors with amounts from $1 to $50, including named donors such as town treasurer Harry W. Aiken and tree warden Millard F. Smith, among many others.
