Town Names Sewer Superintendent From Board Appointments
Ellsworth Burrill, longtime town public safety figure and former police chief, was appointed superintendent of sewers by the board. Reappointments include Town Counsel Leon C. Guptill and Streets Superintendent Fred Tewksbury. Sylvester Connelly won the bid for edgestones, Fred Bassett for artificial sidewalks. Edward J. McHugh of East Boston received the ash contract. Chairman Charles W. Howard of the water department resigned effective April 1. A joint Selectmen and Water Board meeting is set for Friday evening, April 10 to fill the vacancy. Howard has served 22 years. term would have expired March 1927.

Death of Capt Stoehr Revered WWI Machine Gun Leader
Capt Dick Stoehr longtime commander of Winthrop’s Machine Gun Company and hero of the 5th Infantry’s camp and combat service dies. Renowned across the nation for his war record from Mexico to France and his leadership in the Winthrop community and veterans groups.
