Bomb plot suspect seeks reward for Palmer mansion arrest
Police believe Fred Wamplemeyer attempted to gain entry to Mrs Palmer s mansion after placing a bomb beside her residence and shredding his coat with a butcher knife. He claimed another man planted the bomb to create a safety claim and he tore his clothes during the struggle. Authorities doubt the tale and say the motive was to obtain a reward.

Effect of Tariff on Cost of Living
Washington, D. C., Oct 1. As the Payne Aldrich bill faced the Senate Senator Gore warned of high prices, and history shows tariff increases raise costs. From 1897 to 1901 Dingley era price jumps include nails, barbed wire, glass, and overall living costs rising significantly, with protectionist states arguing tariffs boost municipal and national prices. The sugar, steel, lumber, and harvest trusts fund Taft and Republicans, while opposing Democratic candidates.

Lands Available to Settlement Says Potter
Associate Forester A F Potter of the U S Department of Agriculture urged making every acre of land suited for cultivation available for homestead settlement. He noted eliminations of about 6 25 million acres from national forests to favor agricultural use and warned against timber-heavy lands passing to sawmill owners. He cited Olympic and other cases, argued that idle timber lands hinder genuine settlement, and explained forest homestead law provisions and application totals through June 30 1910.
