IL REFINERY BURNING NEAR TOWN AFTER LIGHTNING STRIKE

Lightning hit a large tank at the refinery two miles west of town early morning and spread to another tank. A large force fights to save remaining tanks of crude oil and gasoline as the fire continues. The company may dynamite burning tanks to halt spread while officials assess damage. The refinery site and tanks are insured.

McAlester Okla April 24 Mayor Pete Hanraty was recalled by about a two to one vote. All wards opposed him except his own where the tally was close. Nearly 1200 votes cast. It is rumored I A Enloe may be appointed mayor to fill the vacancy. Hanraty plans to contest the recall in court.

Liquor Decision at Minneapolis Conflicts With Friedman Case

Judge A. Aviad of the U S court in Minneapolis issued a permanent injunction against W E Pussyfoot Johnson and agents, barring interference with saloons on Bemidji area Indian lands after evidence of liquor sales on government reservations. The ruling wipes out effects of Indian treaties post Minnesota statehood, affecting Oklahoma liquor prohibition efforts. The government plans appeal to the circuit court in Denver.
