Avtex Community Day to mark land cleanup in Front Royal
On Saturday the EPA is set to return 440 acres of Front Royal land once labeled among Virginia’s most polluted. EPA officials will hand the Front Royal Warren County Economic Development Authority a letter of no further interest for the Avtex Superfund site, ending a 25 year cleanup chapter after the Avtex Fibers Inc. plant closure.

Grand jury indicts 16 in September
Warren County Grand Jury indicted Christa Renee Wathen, 24, of Front Royal on felony counts including possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana, plus two counts of child endangerment. Officers found drugs and scales in the home during a probation check on her boyfriend. Wathen posted $2,000 bail and faces court on Nov. 3.
