Warren County weighs bonds to fund new middle school

Supervisors hosted a Sept. 16 hearing on issuing up to 45 million in general obligation bonds for a second Warren County middle school at Leach Run Parkway. Bank financing could run 3 to 4 percent with annual payments around 2.5 million to 2.6 million, finishing by 2040.

Warren County School Among 545 With Warning

Virginia reports more than 30 percent of public schools fail full accreditation, including Ressie Jeffries Elementary in Warren County. The VDOE lists Ressie Jeffries as the sole Warren County school cited. Accreditation with warning signals the school remains accredited but must raise English SOL pass rates to meet 75 percent for full status.

Artex property returns to Front Royal after cleanup milestone

Warren County native Harry Deavers, a former FMC rayon plant worker, attended the Artex Community Day marking the 440 acre site returning to the community after a 25 year cleanup that cost 150 million dollars per EPA. Officials from EPA FMC EDA and DEQ joined former employees for tours and a festival at Kendricks Lane.

Taste of Front Royal draws large crowd in debut event

Front Royal organizers hailed the first Taste of Front Royal as a success with about 1,200 attendees. Craig Laird of FRIBA said downtown Main Street grew crowded after 7 p.m. as diners sampled foods from local restaurants, enjoyed live music, and a car show, with $10 buying seven tasting tickets.

Fifth annual Brew and Blues Festival hits Front Royal

The Brew and Blues Festival returns to downtown Front Royal this Saturday with three bands and 36 beers marking a new high for the five year event. Chamber president Niki Foster notes proceeds fund chamber programs and projects while organizers expect about 2,500 attendees, similar to last year.
