Rain drenches region as emergency declared ahead of weekend
Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency amid forecasts of heavy rain. Front Royal logged 4.15 inches since Thursday with Dulles Airport at 1.7 inches. Local responders braced for water rescues and downed trees, but actual calls fell short of expectations. Weather centers noted a heavy rain band from Front Royal to Augusta and Rockingham counties, possibly shaped by the Appalachians. Despite rainfall, the year to date remained slightly below normal and no drought declared.
