RSW Regional Jail Opens in Warren County
The 375-bed RSW Regional Jail in Warren County near Front Royal opened with a ribbon cutting led by Judge Dennis L. Hupp. He praised the design, security features, and the joint effort of three counties Rappahannock Shenandoah and Warren to deliver a modern facility that will receive inmates next week and serve goals of punishment rehabilitation and deterrence while maintaining human dignity. Warren County Supervisor Doug Stanley called the building beautiful on the outside and functional inside and noted it would not look like a prison.

School board considers state policy recommendations
The Sentinel reports the school board reviewed 53 policy changes from the Virginia School Board Association. Finance Director Robert Ballentine said all but two are already in the manual and only need minor revisions to align with state rules. The optional policies would require full board hearings for expulsions, not recommended now.

Walk Off the War hikers stop in Front Royal for reception
Veterans hiking the Appalachian Trail as part of The Warrior Hike arrived at VFW Post 1860 in Front Royal on Friday June 6 for a reception and barbecue. The program, founded in 2011 by Marine Captains Sean Gobin and Mark Silvers, aims to aid wounded veterans and help service members transition back to civilian life after deployment. Inspired by World War II veteran Earl Shaffer, the first to hike the entire AT from Georgia to Maine.
