Trade schools see enrollment surge while public colleges fall
From spring 2021 to spring 2022 two-year skilled trade programs posted sharp gains led by a 11.5 percent rise in mechanic and repair and a 127 percent jump in personal and culinary courses, while public two-year colleges fell 7.8 percent and public four-year colleges dropped 3.4 percent. Trade schools offer affordable, direct paths to credentials, with Triplett Tech and Blue Ridge Tech Center providing courses in auto services, carpentry, culinary arts, nursing, cybersecurity and information technology.
