Residents split over Shenandoah rail corridor fate

April 18 2025 residents voice sharply divided views at Woodstock session on converting the 49 mile Shenandoah Valley dormant rail corridor from Broadway Rockingham County to Front Royal into a rail trail or a side by side rail with trail model. VDOT ordered study will cost and feasibility, no option endorsed yet.

Front Royal Man Arrested After High Speed Crash

Cody Allan Smallwood, 31, of Front Royal, was arrested after fleeing on foot and hiding in a yard following a high speed crash into a telephone pole on Front Royal Pike in Frederick County. He faces charges of driving while intoxicated and felony eluding, among traffic violations, and was held without bond after Monday arraignment in Frederick County General District Court. Roads were wet from rain as officers observed him driving 40 mph over the limit.

Survivors Art Showcase highlights healing at Stone Branch Center

In April Sexual Assault Awareness Month the Phoenix Project hosts a Survivors Art Showcase from noon to 3 p.m. on April 27 at 114 E. Main Street Stone Branch Center for the Arts. Alisha Gill notes the free event invites survivors from a healing arts group and others to share their work including art writing and a live reading.
