Shenandoah National Park gears up for the summer season with mowing weed trimming and ditch cleaning along Skyline Drive a 105 mile route from Front Royal to the Waynesboro-Charlottesville area. Public affairs officer Karen Beck Hertzog notes four entrances allow partial closures for repairs while crews maintain rock walls culverts and drainage. The drive reopened after a Marys Rock Tunnel rock slide and may face another tunnel closure for rock work due to freeze thaw cycles. The park receives about 12 million dollars annually from Congress much of it earmarked for Skyline Drive and upkeep to keep views safe and accessible. Visitors are urged to stay aware of ongoing work and closures.
