Enlistment Rush for Civilian Conservation Corps
Regular army troops in the sixth corps area push to enroll and equip men for the Civilian Conservation Corps to meet President Roosevelt's June 7 target of 250 000 enrollees. The full corps strength is to be placed in work camps by July 1, with Maj Gen Frank Parker directing the rush. An additional 222 000 must be enrolled nationwide by June 7 at about 8 540 daily, a pace higher than WWI–era averages. Also listed are local acceptances from Gogebic County and nearby townships for the CCC program in this territory.

Proteau to Iron Mountain Meet with Relay Team
Smoky Proteau will compete at the Iron Mountain invitational along with coach Gordon Seger. He has improved weekly and set a 24 second 220 yard record at Ironwood last Saturday for Luther L Wright. 2000 Relief Plats Planted in Gogebic County
Approximately 2,000 relief gardens are underway in Gogebic county with RFC crews inspecting sizes and conditions. Gardens range from about 4,000 to 2,500 square feet for two to six person families, and detailed soil and fertilizer guidance is provided by Agricultural Agent C. E. Gunderson.

Local electors to ballot here coming Monday
Local voters will go to the polls Monday to decide a tax increase proposal. The measure would raise taxes for up to five years to not exceed 3.6 percent of total valuation, excluding debt service. Election board chair William Kuivinen and inspectors John Gottwald, Robert Lawrie, Charles Goode, and Joseph Belling oversee polls from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The defeat of a 40 mill proposal in Marenisco township last Monday was by 35 votes. a two-thirds majority was required.

Legion Auxiliary Poppy Sale And Initiation At Meeting
The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a local poppy sale to be placed tomorrow under Mrs Thomas Desonia. Officers and members of the Geroux Post No 11 Auxiliary were initiated at a Community building meeting last evening. Bessemer Auxiliary officers conducted initiation. Portions of a program included concertina and vocal solos with piano, and a variety of dances and readings. A pot luck supper preceded the initiation and program for about 70 members with decorated tables and lit tapers hosted by several members.
