Ninth visit of Mobile X-Ray Bus to Gogebic County
The Michigan Department of Health will run the ninth Mobile X-Ray Bus tour in Gogebic County from May 31 through June 21. At Wakefield Memorial Building the bus will be open May 31 5 to 8 pm June 1 12 to 8 pm and June 2 10 am to 2 pm. Dr H A Tressel urges all adults 15 and over to get a chest x ray while the bus is in Wakefield to detect tuberculosis and other chest diseases early.

Budget Hearing Set for City Budget June 6
Public hearing on the 1955-56 city budget will be held at 7:30 p m at city hall. Council will consider recommendations or objections to the budget for the fiscal year starting July 1. The proposed budget sets a tax rate of 31.75 per 1000, up 7.35, to fund street and sidewalk programs. The total proposed budget is 373310, down 10072.66 from last year. The city plans to raise 128540 in taxes against an assessed value of 4048725, with the rate increase mainly from a 535700 drop in mine valuations.

Leonard A. Mniece 72, former superintendent of Wakefield schools 1934 to 1937, died May 12 at Butterworth hospital Grand Rapids after a heart ailment. James Bugni Pioneer Dies at 81 in Wakefield
James Jocko Bugni 81, longtime Wakefield resident for 65 years, died Wednesday morning at his Putnam Street home after illness since Saturday. Born in Italy December 12, 1873, he came to Wakefield at 16 and worked in mines and woods before partnering with Peter Delmet to run the Crossing Inn. He lived a half century in tavern work and is survived by son Peter in Houghton, daughters Josephine Fromholtz of Ashland and Margaret Krohn of Milwaukee, daughter Mary Hoppa of Wakefield, 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a sister in Oklahoma. Funeral at St. Mary's Church Friday at 9. Lakeside Memorial Chapel in charge.
