John R. Snell proposes a 300 foot wide channel linking lakes and rivers to create an inland trans state waterway for Michigan. Water from Lake Huron would feed the inlet near Port Huron, connecting through Looking Glass River, Grand River, Thornapple River, Battle Creek River, and into Rabbit Paw Paw Grand Rivers to Lake Michigan, yielding about 900 miles of passages and 1,800 miles of shoreline with channels deep enough for 50 ft cruisers. Benefits include water supply, recreation, hydroelectric power, pollution cleanup, flood control, tourism, and potential profits from waterfront development and water sales.
