City Adopts $134,158.45 Budget for The Year
The Wakefield city commission approved an appropriation of 134 158 45 for the coming year. Objections arose from the Wakefield Library Board over 1 000 allocated for libraries and from Kenneth Duncan regarding 2 800 for band funding. Officials noted paving and street improvements would proceed under the new budget and related routine business was conducted. Hold Funeral Services for Nestor Koski in Thomaston
Funeral rites for the late Nestor Thomas Koski of Thomaston were held Friday at Union church with Rev. Jacob Hirvi presiding. He died Wednesday morning at his mother’s home after a long illness. Born February 18, 1928, he attended local schools and is survived by his mother Mrs. Sanna Koski, one brother Leonard, and four sisters Bertha Elsie Betty and Mrs. Iver Hakala. John R. Matthews and his son left with Florence Matthews for Harlan Montana where she has a government hospital job.

Gogebic county's total equalized valuation for tax purposes stands at 6,941,845, down from 39,975,488 last year, a drop of 3,033,643. Plans Complete For Farmers Picnic Tuesday
Gogebic County plans a Farmers and Businessmen Picnic on Tuesday June 30 at the Gogebic County Fair Grounds as part of Dairy Day. An estimated 4000 to 5000 people are expected with speeches judging band music horse races and sports events. WPA To Purge Illegal Aliens From Work Relief Roster
The Works Progress Administration plans to remove about 120000 aliens illegally in the United States from federal work relief rolls. Discharges will begin after June 30 as Administrator Harry L Hopkins uses the new 1425000000 fund. The policy shift ends relief to noncitizens under the old program. The plan includes nationwide surveys to identify needy aliens and cooperation with the Labor Department for potential deportations.
