Copper Range scholar chosen for 1969 70 academic year

Brian Jasberg of Wakefield has been selected as a Copper Range Scholar by Michigan Technological University to begin chemical engineering studies in September. The announcement notes he is a National Merit semi finalist and outlines his Wakefield High School activities and family background.

Swimming Classes At Eddy Park This Summer

Beginning and intermediate swimming classes run June 30 through August 8 for ages 7 and up. Registration June 23 to June 30 at Eddy Park 12:00 to 8:00. A July 1 testing at 10:00 determines class placement. Beginner classes 10:30 to 11:30 AM weekday. intermediate 9:00 to 10:30 AM weekday.

New Pastor Appointed at Wakefield United Methodist Church

The Rev. J Harold Wallis of Lake Linden was named to serve Wakefield United Methodist Church by Bishop Dwight E Loder at Adrian College on June 10 during the Detroit Conference 128th session. Wallis succeeds Rev James Lumsden who served the area for several years. Mrs Peter Demet visited Pontiac Iron Mountain Mount Pleasant St Louis Saginaw and St Claire Shores during a trip with relatives and friends. She later attended Nick Miljevich's graduation at UMD in Eveleth Minnesota with Mrs Elmer Johnson.

Soldier receives honorable discharge after Korea service

Gets Honorable Discharge left Thursday morning by plane from Korea where he served over a year with the Signal Corps. He recently discharged from the armed forces and stopped at Fort Lewis Washington and Milwaukee to visit Brother and sister in law Ted Golembeski. He entered service in October 1967 and will vacation with his parents Ted Golembeski Sr. and Mrs. Ted Golembeski. Michael held a specialist-4 rating at discharge.

Wakefield Civil Service Member Resigns. Replacement Sought

C J Haskins resigned from the Wakefield civil service commission after 18 years and the city will accept applications to fill the vacancy at the next regular meeting. Michigan Tech ROTC cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants at spring commencement June 14. Gary B Johnson of Wakefield was among Air Force commissioned cadets.

Ray Beling a Wakefield native is hired by the White Pine School District Board to lead the high school. He comes after 15 years in Alaska and fills the vacancy left by the death of former principal Edward Helakoski. Beling has been visiting with relatives and friends.

Sergeant E Roger Rolando Returns Home After Honorable Discharge

Sgt E Roger Rolando son of Mr James Rolando arrived home June 3 after an honorable discharge from the U S Army on June 2 at Fort Bragg North Carolina where he had been stationed. Rolando entered the Army in June 1966 and served at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri Fort Dix New Jersey Fort Lewis Washington and spent 18 months in Vietnam.
