Three trips a year for Komsie family bus station owners

The Komsies conduct three annual vacations totaling about 650 miles starting at 5 30 a m on holiday mornings. They visit Oshkosh and Milwaukee using Highway 45 outbound and 51 on return, with Lil limited to one hour per stop. Local weather notes and regional events are described along with parish priest ordinations and community fishing trips.

City Council Relinquishes Lease and Sets Budget Hearings

In a special meeting the City Council adopted a 1969 70 budget of 638649 with funds from electric and water utilities moving into the general fund. A public hearing approved relinquishing the Wakefield Estate lease on Section 8 Township 47 North Range 45 west, with December 30 1969 lease end and six months notice to place the land on the tax roll. The bid for an electric hydraulic boom extension was awarded to Reach All Co. at 2000.

First Mass for Father Jim Kaczmarek in Wakefield

The Rev Jim Kaczmarek celebrated his First Solemn High Mass of Thanksgiving at 4:00 p m on June 8 in Wakefield with a large procession and a 700 person reception. Attending clergy included Msgr Robert Chisholm Rev Roland Dion and Rev B Neil Smith among others. Deacon Peter Carll read the gospel and Fr Kaczmarek delivered the homily on priestly duties. A reception followed in Fr Daniel Hall with a buffet meal and floral decorations.

The Wakefield United Methodist Church hosts a farewell party in the church parlors on Monday June 16 from 7 30 to 9 00 p m for Rev James Lumsden and his family as they depart Wakefield to serve a new parish in Lower Michigan. Members and friends are invited.

First Mass for Fr Arnie Grambow at Immaculate Conception

Fr Arnie Grambow celebrated his first Mass at Immaculate Conception Church on Sunday June 8 after being ordained the previous day at St Peter's Cathedral in Marquette. Concelebrants included Fr Annie Chisholm Fr Cappo Fr Healy Fr Challancin and Rev Rhoades with a large local and distant turnout and a reception at the VFW Clubrooms.

Funeral Rites Held Friday For Ivar Hakala 74

Ivar Hakala 74, Pike Location, died Monday at Divine Infant Hospital where he had been a patient since May 15. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p m at First Lutheran with the pastor officiating. Burial will follow. remains go to the church at 11 a m Friday. Hakala born June 28 1894 in Teuva Vaasa Finland came to the United States in 1916 settling in DeKalb Illinois and has lived in Wakefield since 1918. He married Anna J Hyppa in Wakefield on June 5 1926. He worked at Ramsay and Sunday Lake Mines and then for the City of Wakefield for 10 years before retiring in 1961. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Bessemer Order of Runeberg.

MTU to Award 572 Degrees at Spring Commencement

Michigan Technological University will award 572 degrees at the spring commencement on June 14. Among Wakefield candidates are Leon J. Draxler son of Casper and Mrs Draxler and Gary B. Johnson son of Frederick Johnson Route 1, both earning bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and civil engineering respectively.

Park Sticker Pickup for Residents and Visitors

City residents and out of town visitors are urged to visit the city clerk’s office to obtain free park stickers. Vehicle license numbers are required. Wakefield Township will pay $1.00 for a seasonal sticker or 50 cents daily. Trailer parking costs $1.00 daily with a nine day maximum and 25 cents daily for electric hook-up.

St Scholastica 1969 Commencement Honors 142 Degrees

The College of St Scholastica awarded 142 degrees at 1969 commencement at Duluth Fregeau Auditorium. Bishop Paul H. Anderson conferred degrees. Sister Mary Richard Boe presided, and Marion Stephenson spoke. Mary Elizabeth Gaik, Cum Laude, Wakefield, English, was among honorees.
