Gill Receives Civic Award From Rotary Club
Joseph W. Gill was honored with the annual civic award by the Wakefield Rotary Club in a unanimous vote. The longtime community volunteer, former Plymouth Mining Co. clerk, and local historian has served as chamber secretary and contributed to church and hospital campaigns while maintaining weather records and Gogebic range research. The club plans its annual breakfast next week at the J. P. Cloon home.

Zontelli Bros End Lease On Vicar Mine Property
The Zontelli Brothers Hibbing mine operators gave up the lease on the Vicar mine east of Wakefield. K T Wakefield owner of the property told the Wakefield city council Monday evening. He urged the city to consider leasing or buying the site as a potential future water source and said he would visit Wakefield in July to discuss with officials. The issue was referred to the city attorney.

Mustapan purchased the dwelling and Eddy Park Service Station formerly owned by Harold M. Pitts. Pitts plans to return to Land O Lakes Wisconsin with his wife recently deceased. The new owner and his father will move into their residence soon. Eddy Park Shell Service will continue selling Shell Oil products under the new name. First Lutheran Church has no services this Sunday.

Wakefield Men to Take Part in International Naval Review
Two Wakefield men Elmer R Haukkala fireman USN son of Mrs Charles Haukkala of Karl ing Road aboard USS Albany and Ralph N Harrison electronics technician third class USN son of Mr and Mrs R N Harrison of 902 Putnam aboard USS Woodson will participate in an International Naval Review set for June 12 at Hampton Roads Virginia. More than 60 Atlantic Fleet ships plus 18 foreign nations will attend the first such review in American waters since 1907. Defense Secretary Charles Wilson is expected to represent the president. Fleet Week runs through June 17 with local entertainment planned for visiting sailors as part of the Jamestown Festival commemorating the 305th anniversary of the Jamestown colony.

Miss Haglund Receives Public Health Master’s Degree
Miss Elizabeth Haglund will receive a master’s degree in public health nursing at the University of Michigan commencement on Saturday. She is daughter of the late John R. Haglund and Mrs. Haglund. After a vacation with her mother, she will report to Washington for duty. Previously she was on leave to continue studies and had been assigned to public health work by the federal government in Persia. Nancy Haglund, who completed her public health work at Michigan, now works in Milwaukee. Elizabeth, Mrs. Haglund and her son Jack plan to visit the Milwaukee relatives next week.

Seminary Ordains New Pastor at Synod Service
Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois, ordains a candidate into the Augustana Lutheran Church ministry during the Omaha Nebras ka Synod sessions June 17 to 23. Harlan Johnson Jr and Walfred Raisanen were among 390 seniors receiving engineering degrees from the Michigan College of Mines and Technology in Houghton. Johnson earned mechanical engineering and will join a St Paul firm after summer study. a Korean War veteran formerly listed as missing then wounded, he is the son of Mr and Mrs Johnson. Mary MacDonald Honored With School Dedicated In Toma Hawk
Mrs J C Bedell and Miss Alfie Windberg visited Toma Hawk Wisconsin with Miss Mary MacDonald retired Wakefield teacher. MacDonald suffered a stroke May 10 and is slowly recovering in a Wisconsin hospital. The junior high building was formally dedicated as the Mary MacDonald school for her lifelong service to education.
