Fead Declines Governor Bid Sparks Upper Peninsula Swing

First Holy Communion Set At St Marys Parish

Wakefield Wins in Class A Track Meet
Wakefield high school captured Class A honors at the Kiwanis range meet in Ironwood last Saturday. Wakefield led with 45 percent of the points, ahead of Cater and Ironwood. Wakefield swept three sure events, the low hurdles, the mile, and the 220 yard dash, which were not on the schedule.

Grade Festival Monday Night at Central and Junior schools
The annual grade school festival will be held Monday evening at the athletic field starting promptly at 6 30. Cold weather Friday postponed it to Monday. There is no charge and the public is invited to attend.

Rumor of P M Co Bethlehem merger grows
Rumors persist that negotiations have been underway for a merger between Pickands Mather and Bethlehem Steel. The move would elevate Bethlehem to near the top steel producer standings. Woman Dies In Car Accident Sunday In Gogebic County
Mrs. Charles Schilling of Duluth died Sunday afternoon in a traffic crash that raised Gogebic county deaths for the year to seven the highest in the Upper Peninsula. The car carrying six passengers was returning from a three day holiday trip. the wreck occurred on U S 2 near the Slate River as the vehicle skidded in loose gravel.
