Michigan 1948 special session settles reform tug of war
The 1948 Michigan special session ended with a compromise that limits governor control by adding a state administrative board oversight. Governor Sigler and the reform committee paused drastic constitutional changes and postponed merger plans of 100 agencies into 18. Budget reforms and a new comptroller role for John Perkins were outlined, while predicting a $14 million deficit and possible repeal of the sales tax diversion.

Prospects Slim for Change in Duck Season
Fish and Wildlife Service officials told a Senate expenditures subcommittee that major changes in duck hunting rules are unlikely. Assistant Director Fred C. Lincoln said a modest population increase might occur from 54 million last year, but bag limits or shorter seasons require at least 80 million ducks. Director Albert M. Day noted a bottoming duck population with a possible rise if northern breeding grounds see favorable weather, with 1948 regulations to be announced later. last season allowed four ducks per day with 30 day east and 35 day west seasons.
