David B. Cavan 70, died at Divine Infant hospital after months of illness. Massie 61, Ironwood attorney, died at Country Club of heart attack. Cavan formerly mine superintendent and active in fraternal groups. Massie practiced law since 1920 and served as city attorney and WW II local service board member. Funeral rites in Ironwood. Survived by wife, children and stepchildren. World War I veteran Massie also linked to Pickands Mather Co. and Keweenaw Land. Lawrence Bruno, Wakefield, earned a bachelor of science in industrial education from Stout State College, plans Master’s. attended Wakefield graduation with family.

Commissioner Joseph A. Childs presided at May 17 graduation exercises for the second largest State Police recruit class, 105 troopers, including Kenneth R. Kraus of Wallace Michigan assigned to Wakefield Post. The six week training covered basics of police work and traffic patrol with fall recall for four weeks of advanced crime investigation. Six month probation before confirmation. State Police plan 168 more recruits from the latest legislative session.

Budget Hearing Sets 1956 57 City Fund Plan
A public hearing on the proposed 1956 57 city budget will be held at the regular council meeting Monday at 7 30 PM. The budget totals 362 491 50 for the fiscal year starting July 1 and includes rebuilding of electric department facilities water utility improvements and expanded city services. Revenue will come from real and personal property taxes 129 422 59 plus income from water and light departments state payments sales taxes liquor licenses gas and weight refunds.

Wilfred Trelour 65 former Hanna Iron chemist dies
Wilfred Trelour aged 65, formerly a chemist at Hanna Iron Ore Co. Wakefield, died May 25 at his Ironton Missouri home after illness since March. He retired in February. Survived by his wife Aldora Lagergren, Iron Mountain, a brother Horace in Detroit, a sister in law, and three brothers in law. Funeral at Iron Mountain with several attendees from Wakefield and Iron Mountain.

Memorial Day observances at Lakeview cemetery featured the dedication of two memorial stones for World War II and Korean War dead. Clarence A. Jacobson spoke of honoring all who sacrificed for freedom, and Rev. F. J. Lunn gave an inspirational sermon. The high school band provided music for services and parade. Tony Sertich, recently discharged from the army, spoke at the Rotary Club on a slide trip through Germany Switzerland and Yugoslavia. He described life in Yugoslavia with pictures of his family and outlined primitive sanitation and power conditions in Marshal Tito’s country. He plans to teach in Stam bauh again next fall.
