Demonstration plots seed alfalfa and root crops in county trial
Mr Kangas seeded alfalfa at 8 to 4 tons per acre with 15 pounds of Grimm and one bushel of barley as a nurse crop on a field that previously grew potatoes. The spring plot has been repeatedly plowed harrowed and prepared by local extension staff to test varieties such as American Purple Top rutabaga Mangels rutabaga beets and turnips for high yield and good keeping quality. A second field under Sippola features a large onion crop near Erick Nikula south of the Wicolo area.
