Wakefield Township Schools hold their annual exhibit at the Community Building, featuring cooperative displays from all grade levels, manual arts work, and music performances by students. Sunshine Camp at Grand View Opens Early

Sunshine Camp at Grand View hospital grounds plans to open late this month if weather allows. Last year 140 children registered and received treatment with only three missing school. This year the camp uses sun suits instead of bathing suits to improve sunlight exposure.

Poppy Sale Nets Over 70 Dollars for Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary raised 72.84 from a poppy sale held last Saturday with prizes for top sellers Geraldine Desonia first Beatrice LaRoux second Pearl Desonia third and Lydia Morrison honorable mention. An upcoming white sale at the Odd Fellows hall next Saturday will fund relief work for ex service men.

Local Service Club to Meet Tuesday in Wakefield

Wakefield men under the Service Club committee will gather at the Community Building at 6 30 p m Tuesday for a fellowship program. Tickets are sold at the drug store, no sales after Monday noon. Two or three out of town speakers and music are promised. Covers for 100, no solicitation, program to finish early.

City Commission Votes Fire Hose Purchase and Fence Quotation

At this week’s meeting Chief Andy Hood urged the fire department needs and the commission voted to buy 500 feet of fire hose. It was also decided to seek bids for steel fencing to enclose Lake View Cemetery after grading work.

Memorial Day Services Honor Fallen Heroes in City

Memorial Day services were held Thursday to honor those who died defending the country. A program at the Community Building by the American Legion and Auxiliary included prayers, singing, band music, a recitation by Fred Tillis, and an address by Mr. Bemer who traced the day to Civil War origins and the May 30 date adopted nationwide. A service at the foot of Sunday Lake then recognized sailors and Marines, followed by a parade with multiple civic groups, ending at the cemetery to honor the soldier dead.

Tourist Camp Grounds Scenes of Activity at Eddy Park

The Eddy Park tourist camp grounds are bustling as summer opens with campers using facilities daily. Stoves, fuel, city water, and overnight space are provided. The bathing head draws visitors, additional space has been added, and a new road beside the deer park will improve access to this popular spot.

Firemen Discuss Tourney Plans for Ishpeming Convention

The Up per Peninsula Firemen's association executive committee met with Chief Trembath to plan the racing program for the annual convention in Ishpeming in July. The full schedule is not ready but several new events will be added. Attending outside officials included President Church of Bessemer First Vice-President McDonald Hurontown Second Vice-President Evans Houghton Secretary Belanger L Anse and Treasurer Gordon Murray Michigamme. Murray has long served as treasurer of the organization.

Graduation to Honor 29 Pupils This Year

The Tattler reports commencement for the class of 1929, with 29 seniors to graduate. Playlets written and performed by students Dorothy Collins Grace Mars Martha Kuivinen Arthur Cavendar and Helen Laakse. Rehearsals begin after the school exhibit as the class presents a progress theme through 1900 to 1929. A memorial is to be unveiled at the program on June 12.

Three Killed in Ironwood Railroad Crossing Crash

A car carrying Mr and Mrs John Hooper and their three year old granddaughter Caye Gunderson was struck by a Seo Line train at Lake Street Ironwood crossing. The car was dragged 500 feet and demolished. Mrs Kenneth Gunderson was severely injured. An ore train on Northwestern line was stopping as the crash occurred.

Death of Emma Agriesti From Scarlet Fever in City

Mr and Mrs Vincent Agriesti mourn the loss of their six year old daughter Emma last Saturday afternoon from scarlet fever She was sick a day or two and is the first death from this disease in the city though several similar cases have occurred recently Funeral services were held Monday with Rev Charles Szygula presiding Interment followed at Lake View cemetery

The May 13 Wakefield Township Board of Education proceedings misstated the Michela Company bid for 6 inch shale drain tile. The correct Michela bid is 80.077 per foot, not 30.0464 per foot. The publisher issues a stand corrected notice.

Arthur Johnson Fractures Arm in Wakefield Mine Accident

Arthur Johnson sustained a fractured arm and minor injuries when a bar slipped from his grip during a machine move at the Wakefield mine last Saturday. His partner was present as the motor struck him, causing the injury.
