Council Reports Actual Cash Balance and Holiday Edicts

City finances show Dec 3 cash of 28695.62, down from 35673.68 last year as November receipts reached 27000 led by state sales tax 15000 and gas tax. Expenditures hit 44390.89 with 7296.04 warrants outstanding. Council denied Mrs Jacobson's request to erect a public Christmas tree due to fire marshal orders.

Holiday visits of students to relatives in city area

Miss Carol Jose, Carroll College freshman, and many other students and family members are spending Christmas holidays with relatives across Illinois Wisconsin and Michigan. Names include Pat Fountain Joe Sutter and Janet Barringer with parents and grandparents visiting Chicago Iron Mountain Marquette and Milwaukee. Families plan extended visits to universities veterans hospitals nursing schools and naval bases during the recess.

Address reporting duty for all non citizens in January

The notice states that every non citizen in the United States must report their address to the government each January. Aliens must complete a registration card obtainable at U S Post Offices or immigration offices. Violations may incur a fine up to 200 dollars, up to 30 days in jail, and possible deportation. Cards will be available at local post offices after the new year.

Seventeenth Uthrotar Banquet at Wakefield Legion Quarters

The seventeenth annual Uthrotar banquet will be held Monday evening Dec. 26 at the Wakefield Community Legion quarters. Robert A. Burns, program chairman, announces a program with Presiding President Rodney D. Hodge, a Star Spangled Banner, Pledge, Invocation, dinner, and community singing. The program includes welcome by Hodge, a response by Charles Kuivinen, introductions by Bruce Sachs, a guest address by Governor Al Soetebier, and Auld Lang Syne.

Wakefield Groups Raise Funds For Children Party And Hospital TV

The Wakefield Chamber of Commerce and the Sunday Lake Local CIO completed a drive for a children's Christmas party and a TV set for Gogebic County Hospital. Contributions come from CIO Local 2056 and many local businesses and individuals with donations ranging from fifty to fifty cents.

City manager Leonard Harris and officials used a slide rule to estimate Wakefield’s snow from Nov 15 to Dec 15 at 105 inches, area eight and a half square miles, hauling 1163 loads and 6 470 000 pounds. Total weight reaches 8 206 824 tons, prompting questions on man hours spent clearing paths and berating plow operators.

Connor Co Bonuses for 182 Workers This Week

Christmas bonuses totaling about 15000 are distributed by Connor Lumber & Land Co to 182 employees at its Wakefield area operations.
