Five Thousand Deer Cross Straits Record Season
The open deer season closed at midnight Friday setting a record for the number killed under the current law. Official figures from the state ferry dock show deer shipped across the straits, including an anomalous large antlered specimen. Power lines now open along M 28 to Bergland

Anton Bruno Dies at Waukesha Hospital
Funeral services for Anton Bruno will be Friday morning at St. Mary's Church. The American Legion, of which he was a member, conducted the cemetery rites. Born in Lovano Italy in 1886 he came to the United States as a youth and lived with his brother Dominic in Wakefield. He enlisted in March 1918, served at Camp McArthur Texas until war’s end, later worked in Wakefield until ill health forced retirement. He underwent an Ashland operation, then entered the veterans hospital at Waukesha November 3, diagnosed with cancer of the entire system and died Monday. Survived by his mother in Italy and his brother. Interment in Wakefield with a Legion squad as honorary pallbearers and performing cemetery rites.
