Lost boy found dead in woods after five days

Louis Phillippi a 19 year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert Phillippi Palms was found dead at 11 30 a m in the woods where he had been since last Saturday while hunting with companions in the Mattson area. He started southeast then followed a deer trail before getting lost as the party searched. He had been heard earlier by locals at a whistle and was guided by searchers.

Marenisco News Notes Highlights

Marenisco notes describe Presbyterian church services led by Rev. Fraser Tuesday evening and a Presbyterian Aid meeting hosted at Mrs E H Ormes home. Whitburn and son Donald return from Detroit after a week of medical attention and visits. A group of boys and girls enjoy skating at the outdoor rink in town during evenings and weekends. Organize for Charity Work Unites City Agencies

All welfare agencies in the city and township formed a single unit for Christmas charity. A Thursday meeting appointed Mrs. R. B. Wortley president of the relief effort. Baskets will be placed in rooms. pupils may donate foods clothing and toys. Used toys will be painted repaired by pupils in manual training. Representatives from Woman's club churches fraternal societies Rotary club American Legion Legion Auxiliary and the city and school health departments attended.

Wolverines to Meet Ashland City Team Sunday at Community Gym

The Wolverines face Ashland City in the second game of the season Sunday afternoon at 2 30 PM in the Community gym. Bergland was the first opponent felled by the local squad last Sunday, though Berg presented a strong challenge and led the scoring at times.

Wakefeld Men Found Not Guilty of Theft

Reino Maki John Teppo and George Elevancee were found not guilty by a circuit court jury this week after allegedly planning and aiding a home theft involving about eighty dollars on August 31. The trio, living on a nearby farm, faced charges of burglary and conspiracy and await sentencing. Local police arrested the men the day after the theft was reported.

Cleon Motor Wins Bid for New City Truck

Cleon Motor Company was the successful bidder for the electric department's new truck. The city will obtain it without delay but no formal purchase until early next year when the budget is prepared and funds arranged. The action was approved at Thursday’s commission meeting with Mayor Hanson authorized to donate $100 to local charities for Christmas baskets.

Dismantle Drying Plant At Wakefield Mine Site

Rations are being made at the Wakefield mine to dismantle the drying plant unused for years. The plant, started in 1918 to dry wet ore from the pit before shipping to Ashland, operated briefly but was too costly to continue. M A Hanna Co, operators, experimented first on the Messaba range before Wakefield opened, and the project was abandoned due to high expenses.

Logging Still Quiet In Regional Timber Market

The logging industry remains subdued with contracts anticipated in December still unsettled. R. Connor Co, the district’s largest operator, employs about 100 men but plans cuts soon as shipments drop to its own mills at Stratford and Laona Wisconsin amid expectations of a market break in the new year.

Pickands, Mather and others pause four day weeks at Newport Ironwood Cary Hurley and Sunday Lake mines. Output falls to 39 percent of capacity while rail demand shifts work to rail makers. Ladies Sodality to Meet December 15 at St Marys Church

Italian Consul Praises Life in Italy at Rotary Meeting

School Notes Preview Season Ticket Offer and Seven Home Games

A ticket selling drive started last Monday offers season tickets to students who sell five books of adult tickets at two dollars per book or a free season ticket for ten books sold.
