Rites Held for Andrew Niemi Sr in Wakefield Church
Last rites for Andrew Niemi Sr were held at First Lutheran with Tauno Jarvinen in charge. Interment followed at Wakefield cemetery. Niemi died at his son Isaac’s home after years of illness, born in Kuusamo Finland on June 3 1863. He came to the United States with his wife and four children and worked at the Sunday Lake and Brotherton mines, retiring as a pensioner in 1928. Four children survive Isaac Niemi Kathryn Keski Andrew and Anna Newman with a son John having died in 1927 auto crash. numerous relatives attended.

Bobby Kay Fourth Traffic Victim in 1948
Robert Kay aged 85 was the fourth traffic victim in Gogebic county for 1948 after being fatally injured near the US 2 junction with infirmary road at about 6 15 Wednesday evening. He was struck by 19 year old Norman Johnson of Bessemer who said he tried to avoid Kay as he stepped onto the highway from the north side. Johnson’s car went into the ditch on the south side while Kay, an inmate of the county infirmary, had lived near Jack for nearly 55 years with no known relatives.
