Sports Club Explores Presque Isle River Area
Twenty five members guided by Harold Giansanti visited the Presque Isle River park area, 14 miles north of the city near Lake Superior, to see waterfalls, trails, gorges, and virgin timber. They launched from the Black River mouth and found the area a remarkable local resource despite lacking a completed road. An additional trip is planned for summer to attract more participants.

Fifth Car Fatality On Black River Road
William O. Messiaen aged 32 died Monday night from injuries in a car crash on the Black River road early that morning. Passenger Arthur Berlin was the driver. The car overturned at high speed. The death marks the fifth traffic fatality of the year on the range and the third in three weeks.

Nearly 200 on WPA Program In Wak City
About 200 men and women are employed on the WPA program in Wak City. Roughly 100 workers toil on city-wide street improvement, 80 on the enclosed ice rink project, and the rest on sewing and assessing tasks. Nearly two and a half miles of concrete sidewalk have been laid this summer with several blocks of curb installed. Four streets are ready for macadam paving and the work is to be finished this month. The ice rink has faced man-hour cuts, but rock work will finish early fall and roof steel will be installed, aiming for full readiness before the season starting in December.

William Schiltz Injured in Plymouth Car Crash

Drowning at Ironwood Harold Jart Found At Park Beach
Harold Jart, 10, son of Mr and Mrs Edward Jart, drowned Monday at Geeta Park Beach in four feet of water. An unnamed swimmer discovered the body and artificial respiration failed. Harold, youngest of ten, was not missed among about 400 children. His brother Clarence died in a county airport airplane crash on September 2, 1930.
