Elkton land sale eyed by Pham Chopra buys Elkwood subdivision
Elkton plans call for selling 189 acres of town land for 2.5 million to Pham Chopra, who has already purchased multiple Elkton properties, including the 312 acre Elkwood subdivision east of U.S. 340 off Persimmon Street. Elkwood was recorded in 1975 in Rockingham County but not developed. Chopra, 72, traces his vision to Akal Institute begun in 1988 to aid addicts, with a former Keezletown rehab center shut for finances.

Hay makes return trip to Uganda after 20 years
Masanutt en resident John Hay, 72, traveled to Uganda last month after an invitation from former student Catherine Tukei who taught him in 1993. Tukei, who helped establish two early childhood schools in eastern Uganda, announced the schools plan to add grades 1-3, with Hay recalling a 1993 three month teaching stint.

Elkton honors Confederate soldier with headstone for Pemberton C. Shifflett
Elkton officials and residents along with the Sons of Confederate Veterans and 10th Virginia Infantry re enactors dedicated a headstone for Pemberton C. Shifflett, a former Conrad's Store resident who died en route from a Civil War camp. The headstone cost 253 dollars funded by the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Elkton Historical Society, with the VA covering the grave marker. burial location remains unknown, somewhere between Camp Douglas and Jicksburg.

Elkton Mayor Proposes New Town Hall Plan
Mayor Wayne Printz floated a plan for a new town hall during Monday’s work session after a trip with Councilwoman Mar garetta Isom to Mount Jackson where a four million dollar town hall includes a library. He suggested a possible one million dollar project with a library, and council reviewed slides of Mount Jackson’s town hall.
