Fire damages Shenandoah Moose Lodge in Page County

Crystal McAlister woke to a smoke-filled apartment above Shenandoah Moose Lodge 2176 on U S 340 after a Monday morning fire that officials say caused 500000 to 750000 dollars in damage. Two dozen firefighters from Shenandoah and Elkton battled the blaze for about 90 minutes. the Page County Sheriff’s Office investigates the cause while McAlister seeks temporary lodging.

Grottoes Town Council last week unanimously approved the second reading of an ordinance permitting Utility Terrain Vehicles to be driven on town streets. The measure enables UTV operation within municipal streets under defined rules.

Grottoes Adopts UTV Rules in Golf Cart Ordinance

Grottoes Town Council will allow UTVs on town streets after a citizen request to include them in the golf cart ordinance. A $10 registration, inspection, valid license and proof of insurance are required. Police chief may prohibit usage in unsafe conditions. UTVs may be used for driveway plowing.

Every birthday's a blessing for Ed Turner cancer survivor

Ed Turner, 61, beat kidney cancer diagnosed in May 2000 after left kidney removal. He underwent four surgeries including adrenal gland, liver portion, and abdominal lymph node removals. His wife Michelle, 57, by his side, says each birthday is a blessing after their longtime battle and marriage soon after the diagnosis.

Council tables decision on water sewer hookup fees

Elkton council unanimously tabled a decision on water and sewer hookup fees for Mount Pleasant and Newtown road residents who joined the town years ago. A committee will study financing options and make a recommendation, with Councilman Jay "Tony" Dean noting a projected $1.5 million to extend lines.
