Remedy sought for old town dump problems
ELKTON The town moves to fix a leaking old town dump into the South Fork Shenandoah River with a riverbank remedy. Public Works Director Troy Shifflett describes placing 30 foot trees with root systems along the bank, building on 1990s work. donor Pham Chopra will supply at least 500 trees 10 to 12 inches in diameter. The plan involves digging behind the county waste transfer station, planting trees tightly, plus riprap rock and dirt. No contract yet. council funded up to 283000 to pursue a 100000 grant from Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries. Shenandoah Streamworks involved.

Copper Patina opens copper art shop in Village of the Valley
Bob Swartz, 58, a Somerset native and cabinet maker, opened The Copper Patina in early April. The shop features copper wine themed art, wind chimes, planters and swag lights. Swartz builds designs spontaneously, saying the craft has overtaken his life after years of integrating copper into furniture. He previously sold copper pieces across the United States at upscale venues.
