Elkton OKs funds to fix old town dump issues
The Elkton council approved a 283000 dollar plan to prevent the old town dump from contaminating the Shenandoah River. A 100000 dollar grant from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries hinged on the town assuming the rest of the project costs.

Alger, River Bend’s sole librarian since opening seven years ago, enhances reading with interactive activities and a giraffe sculpture crafted by her husband. Traffic stop uncovers drugs and weapons charges
Elkton police stopped Travis Turner and Jessica Hensley on Spotswood Trail for an equipment violation after 8:30 p.m. December 28. A shotgun, a stolen pistol, drugs and paraphernalia were found. Turner faces multiple felonies for weapon and drug charges. Hensley faces drug paraphernalia and weapon counts. Further warrants added more charges against Turner, totaling 21 felonies and 5 misdemeanors forthcoming.

PCHS grad Daniel Gray dies at Fort Bliss
Daniel Gray, a 1990s Page County High School graduate and Army private first class, died unexpectedly in his sleep March 14 at Fort Bliss El Paso Texas. Born February 1 1994 he grew up in Virginia moving with his Navy father and later settled in Stanley. Friends recall his cheerful nature and sense of duty as he served after boot camp. The cause of death is under investigation.

Local DI teams win at Northwest Virginia regional finals
Eight local Destination Imagination teams qualified for state finals after a strong showing at the Northwest Virginia regional tournament held March 5 at John Handley High School in Winchester. The Elkton and Montevideo middle school blended team plus three Peak View Elementary squads captured first place in a 79-team event. The Ninja Dragons of Pink Sparkly Doom, coached by Annie Senger and Heather Wilt, featured Elkton Middle students Brayden Wilt Jericho West Will St John and Montevideo’s Gavin Senger Hunter Blosser Matthew Ford, winning in the musical mashup category.

Grottoes considers UTV use on town streets
Grottoes council approved first reading of an ordinance to allow utility-terrain vehicles on town streets. A second reading is set for April 14. Requirements include a $10 registration, vehicle inspection, valid license, and proof of insurance after a citizen requested the change.
