Bear Lithia Spring’s History in Shenandoah Valley Ownership and Bottling
Bear Lithia Spring near Elkton, long tied to Adam Miller and his descendants, was famed since the 18th century for its lithium waters. The site hosted a Bear Lithia Water Company operation from Harrisonburg, with later bottling shifts to New York and Virginia Bear Spring Water. Drinking water and healing claims boosted a hotel near the spring after the Civil War, with a mid‑1880s testimonial booklet and a late 1910s revival before bottling ended about 1919.
