Elkton selects Gerry Bootie Comer 57 to fill the remaining two years of Wayne Printz's council term after Printz became mayor. Comer brings Merck experience including 34 years with 18 as production manager, fire captain roles, Marine Corps weapons tech, and computer work for town officials. Randell Snow was the other applicant.

Memphis based Auto Zone seeks a 6 768 square foot building on a triangular parcel at U S 33 and Old Spotswood Trail east of Burger King. A public hearing for a sign variance is set for 7 p m February 16 to permit a 40 foot tall sign, well above the 20 foot limit, to improve visibility.

McDonald keeps carving canes despite cancer and age
At 72 Bill McDonald of Elkton continues wood cane carving after turning to the hobby during chemotherapy. A former Norfolk police officer, he crafts varied shapes from maple, walnut and poplar, selling many canes for 60 to 300 dollars while sometimes gifting them. He plans to continue as long as he can.
