Third time in five months council rejects four light poles
Elkton town council again rejects buying four more light poles for town hall. The vote 4-3 tied with Mayor Roy Davis casting the tie break, following budget concerns over rising water and electric rates. Pence retires after 2001 08 service.

Shenandoah native climbs to governor aide role
Christina Nuckols, a Shenandoah and Page County High School graduate, rose from intern at The Valley Banner to 23 years in journalism and now serves as deputy communications director for Governor Terry McAuliffe. Born to Hudson and Peggy Nuckols, she started with Dr Bill Hazel Jr. in health and human resources and moved up this month.

Event center permit rejected for Cave Hill site
Rockingham County supervisors denied a special use permit for an event center at Cave Hill Farm on Jacob Burner Road in McGaheysville. The request by Walter and Lisa Hopkins was postponed October 8 and again considered December 10, ending in a 5-0 vote against.

Journeys Crossing Assisted Living at 102 N Stuart Avenue Elkton earned the town's December Business Appreciation Award presented by Elkton Downtown Revitalization Corporation in partnership with the Town of Elkton. Co-owner Brian Phelps administrator Theresa De Mastus and administrator in training Carla Monger accepted the honor. Also in attendance were co-owner Scott Strickland his wife and other family members. The property began as a Victorian style house and has seen multiple houses removed over its long history.

Rivercrest Farm wins permit for event barn near Shenandoah
County supervisors approve Linda Dovel’s special use permit to host events at the 240 acre Rivercrest Farm along the Shenandoah River near Shenandoah. Plans include paving the entrance, installing a septic system, two restrooms, and a fire water supply with a spring opening planned for early spring.

Shenandoah council extends broadband franchise and lease
At its December 9 meeting the Shenandoah Town Council approved an ordinance to extend the non exclusive broadband franchise and lease with Rural Broadband Network Services for five more years retroactive to December 1. The council also held a Shenandoah Wireless Broadband Authority meeting and set the next regular session for July 14, 2015. It awarded the November 2014 Community Enhancement plaque to Brian and Mackenzie Watson for home improvements at 1119 Wahnona Ave and approved a bingo permit for the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company at the town community center.

World Trade Center I-beam upgraded at EMS
