Christmas decorating winners named in Elkton judges panel
At Elkton town council, the good news was the inaugural holiday decorating contest winners. Journeys Crossing Assisted Living Center won first place and $500 for decorating the late Randolph M. Hobby Robinson's former department. Kristen Delmar Johnson won second place and $250 for the effort. The town manager's choice went to Gooden siblings Jaclyn and Abigail McNeely with Nicole Fellhoelter for decor.

Joint January meeting eyed by Shenandoah Town Council and Page County
During its December 8 session Shenandoah Town Council heard a plan from Page County Board of Supervisors Chair Johnny Woodward for a joint meeting of the supervisors and the Town Councils of Shenandoah Stanley and Luray in January. The plan includes planning commissions meeting the same day, to be facilitated by Mike Chandler of the Virginia Planning Association and focused on economic development. The tentative schedule calls for planning commissioners to meet morning January 29 and the board and councils to meet that afternoon at the Mimslyn Inn in Luray.

Local Christmas tree farm closes after 20 years
PORT REPUBLIC Edward Lee Foerster known as Foerster closes ELE Christmas Tree Farm after selling 140 trees in the first week of December. The 10 acre operation opened in 1997 and Foerster, 62, plans to stay closed, citing the hard work.

Chopra buys land around historic Conrad's Store in Elkton
Elkton resident Pham Chopra completed purchases of seven vacant lots near Conrad's Store at 501 W Spotswood Trail. Chopra bought Conrad's Store in October for 75000 from Frances Dennen Miller's estate and plans upgrades to the circa 1812 building that once served as a general store and post office. He also bought a lot west of the store for 13750 from former Mayor Roy E Davis and six more lots from Miller's estate in November.
