End of ringing era as Elkton Salvation Army bell ringer retires
Elkton's Bob Hammer, 84, retires from the Salvation Army bell ringing campaign after the holiday season. The Evangelical United Methodist Church will continue the fundraiser next year with Steve and Sue Kosup taking over. Hammer, a former Sperry purchasing manager, helped start Elkton’s bell ringing in 1992 and plans to step back due to mobility issues.

Deavers Still Going Strong at Kite's Store
Sylvia Deavers 77 has worked at Kite's Store in a Page County community for 40 years. She and husband Willie bought the business in 1983 after leaving Wrangler in Lu Ray. The shop offers gas from old fashioned pumps, groceries, deli items, a gift shop and a social spot for locals and visitors.

Shenandoah doctor Matt Yoder opened Shen Valley Family Practice to be closer to home. The clinic at 422 First St. north of town hall began Dec. 16 and offers self pay at 75 per visit with insurance accepted. Regular hours are 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
