Five Grottoes children from United Methodist Church organized blessing bags for Harrisonburg shelters. Forty 1 gallon bags filled with socks, wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, crackers, and a note were blessed in worship before distribution at Our Community Place and Open Doors.
Charlie Campbell, 67, retires as Page County revenue commissioner after a 40 year career begun in 1975. A Republican, he says he may not work December 31 due to remaining vacation. He and wife Linda run a 200 acre farm. son Timothy, 48, assists. Campbell believes he is the county’s longest serving official.
The American Cancer Society seeks volunteer drivers for its Road to Recovery program with a need in Page County and surrounding counties. Kaitlin Pomerleau notes volunteers transport cancer patients to appointments in Harrisonburg and nearby towns. Drivers typically provide 2 to 3 days notice and assist with education and Relay for Life fundraising efforts.
Elkton Middle School Future Farmers of America program was named a two star chapter for 2015 by the National FFA Organization. The top 17 Virginia chapters earned state recognition in June and Elkton Middle was the only gold chapter in Rockingham. National ratings were announced at the 2015 National FFA Convention in Louisville July 26 through Aug 1.
The BB T branch in Elkton partners with Elkton Area United Services to support local seniors through an Angel Tree program. Ten gift requests remain as of Monday afternoon, with items listed on each angel’s wish, and gifts must be returned to the bank by Monday December 21 for delivery.
