Elkton downtown hosts Old Town Christmas on Thursday evening with Circle M Carriages offering carriage rides. The Welcome Center at 306 W Spotswood Ave will provide cookies warm drinks and music by Kenneth Monge. Local shops open with a window decorating contest awarding prizes of 500 250 and 100. Massanutten Resort plans to open some slopes Friday as a cold front and an arctic blast forecast keep temperatures in the 20s and 30s. Wintegreen Resort in Nelson County also aims to open trails Saturday, while Bryce Resort will announce its opening date soon.

Teen awakens at UVa after crash in Penn Laird
Four weeks after a rear-end collision on U S 33 in Penn Laird, 16 year old Tristan Miller of Spotswood High School is awake and interacting with visitors. Doctors at the University of Virginia Medical Center placed him in a medically induced coma after the November 11 crash. A fundraiser was planned this week at a basketball game against Turner Ashby High School.
