Elkton Mayor Wayne Printz floated a winter entertainment plan to place a portable ice skating rink behind the Elkton Area Community Center. If approved by the town council the 38 by 83 foot rink could be installed by year end or early next year with local donations already offered and about $1,000 projected cost.
Cantore, an eight member a cappella group, performed at Caroling in the Caverns held by the Grottoes Raritan Club. The sixth annual fundraiser lights up the cave to raise funds for the South River Elementary School Boys & Girls Club and its scholarship program, marking a new, lights-on performance in the group's history.
Pham Chopra outlines Elkton land project behind the Kite Man s Mansion. He aims to break ground by next fall with a 700 acre master plan including a 45 acre hospitality center and an Athletic Village. Proposal to town officials will be presented next spring. Chopra emphasizes giving back and a "quiet mind" as guiding philosophy.
The Grottoes Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of a backyard chicken ordinance. Members Morris Neitzey Smith Keeler voted yes while Justis Watson Holloway were absent. The code bans livestock on less than an acre, but residents have kept fowl and requested a formal ordinance, facing potential Class 4 fines.
Elkton hosts its annual Christmas parade at 6 p m with colorful floats a horse and carriage Santa and Mrs Claus and school groups led by East Rockingham High School Marching Band. Organizer Allison Morris notes good weather and community spirit as the parade runs along West Spotswood Trail and Stuart Avenue for its second nighttime staging.
