Milnes Led Shenandoah to Iron Boom and Rail Growth
Milnes, a Methodist minister and later congressman, steered Shenandoah to become an iron hub with the Big Gem furnaces and railroad arrival. The town, once Forge, grew under his leadership, with many slaves and workers living in company housing and later commemorated in the Methodist cemetery by Judd family memorials. Irwin Judd Jr. recalls visiting the memorial with affection.
