Frazier Quarry donated 60 tons of gravel last month to the Shenandoah Police Department to aid construction of a shooting range behind the town sewer plant on Long Avenue. Police Chief Paul Davis said officers have volunteered time to clear brush and build the access road over the past 11 years.
Davis said the town plans a shooting range to meet Virginia standards, allowing Davis and officers to respond to calls while on range duty. The Page County Sheriff's Office assists 5 to 6 hours during shooting days. Frazier Quarry, near Buttermilk Creek, donates to the community.
Faith and conversation drive a local church to host free Sunday breakfasts at Life Church in McGaheysville. The gatherings began four years ago at Brown Memorial Community Church on Town Hall Road, drawing attendees from Harrisonburg, Mount Sidney, Weyers Cave, Staunton, and beyond. Bethlehem Bible Church members also join, with guests including those facing hard situations and volunteers like Mike Barco providing rides.
Virginia State Police and Page County Sheriff's Office scoured a swamp near Elkton in Rockingham County last Wednesday in the Joy Schultz murder probe. Sheriff John Thomas said the operation aimed to locate a physical item tied to Schultz's death but gave no specifics. Schultz, 51, disappeared Sept 6 from near 9006 U S 340 Apt B. body found Oct 22 off Belder Road, Rockingham. Her husband George Schultz, 54, and son George Schuppan, 23, face first degree murder charges.
Elkton Go-Mart Inc a Gassaway West Virginia company purchased the Dixie Mart gas station from E&A Land LLC for 1 445 047 covering 2.07 acres at the northwest corner of U S 33 and Mount Hermon Road County records show the deal is part of a larger purchase of six gas stations and two Subway restaurants from Dixie Oil and Gas Corp The other Go-Mart locations are Weyers Cave Verona Covington and Greenville Subways are in the mix
East Rockingham Business Council aka ERBC is led by a Fairfax County narcotics investigator and a Shenandoah native. Founded six years ago by Pete Bonavita and Stan Farthing, the group began with six members and has since expanded. The first meeting was held at Bonavita’s realty office as the council mushroomed.
