Missing boater presumed dead after North Carolina Lake Gaston incident
A McGaheysville man is presumed dead and a Grottoes man remains in hospital after a fishing trip accident Sunday on Lake Gaston near the NC Virginia border. Rescue efforts for Brian Harold were suspended and set to resume, with Jeff Hitt treated for hypothermia and cardiac arrest after CPR. Authorities noted the water temperature around 51 degrees and unclear ignition cause.

Ken Shifflet recalls growing up near Simmon s Gap and the 1935 forced relocation for Shenandoah National Park. At six, he heard park officials tell his family to move or be removed. The next day they moved to Nortonsville, and on Dec 7 their log house burned when park agents returned for belongings.

Contribution boosts local Adventurers' Club efforts
A $10,000 donation to Friends of East Rockingham County Communities Inc. FERCC supports the Adventurers' Club through the current school year. The George J. and Effie L. Seay Foundation of Richmond funded the gift last month. The program, now in Elkton and McGaheysville, targets grades 5 through 12 to boost grades attendance and behavior and offers free Massanutten Four Seasons Resort passes to seven Rockingham County schools for meeting year standards.

Landmark Missions expands Tanzania outreach with new processing building
Landmark World Missions, linked to Landmark Tabernacle, completed a 1,560 square foot facility to process and store shipments to Moshi Tanzania. The church, aiding an orphanage for 16 years, ships clothing shoes and eye glass, with rice sent three times yearly and forklift loading possible. About 14,000 dollars was donated by Pastor Powers' late uncle Robert Powers.
